These captivate viewers, transporting them to the bustling bazaar scenes of Jerusalem, the city where he lived and is buried. Attentive to the architectural details and clothing of his characters, he specialized in depicting urban landscapes, often inspired by his own photographs. Although his paintings were highly regarded during his lifetime, they fell into oblivion after his death. Today, Gustav Bauernfeind is recognized as one of Germany's greatest orientalist painters.
