> In Purim it is customary to send food ... days of feasting and joys, an opportunity to send presents one to another and gifts to the poor... In some communities, dishes were offered on earthenware plates or in decorated wooden boxes. This plate was made in the Islettes faience workshops in Alsace-Lorraine, in the valley of Biesme, where the first factory was opened by Francois Bernard in 1764.
